STOP MOTION

STOP MOTION

The idea for my stop motion film was to find a way of showing my physical change over a number of years using images. However, with the assignment deadline only a few weeks away, its lucky that I decided to start this over 3 years ago. I would watched many videos on the internet, which were from the same idea. One video which stood out was from Noah Kalina who took a photo a day for 12 years. His videos used to get millions of views, including the one that I have linked below. This is a perfect example of what my finished project will look like. However, I never plan to actually 'finish' this project as I want to do it for as long as I can and document my physical change over my life.

3 years ago, when I decided I wanted to do this project, I didn't have much great equipment available. However, I made do with what I had and began shooting the self portraits on my old laptop camera. I would do this everyday for over 2 years, until I discovered an iPhone app called 'close-up', which allowed me to stop using my laptop and meant I could just use my mobile instead, which saved loads of time.

The app also has an onion skin setting, which meant I could see a faded version of the previous photo. This helped me match up the faces and create a smoother looking video in the end.
I exported the video through the app and then sent it to myself via email, which allowed me to save the video on the computer at college. I then imported the video into Premiere Pro so I could add music and titles.

I imported the video from my computer into Premiere Pro,

I used a fade in at the beginning of the video to create a smooth and appealing intro.

I added a soundtrack to the video, which I discovered on the internet. I thought the song fit with the video quite well and I noticed it had also been used on similar videos to the one I created.

I added a few titles at the end of the video after a fade out to black. The titles were "400 Days" followed by my name, "Chris Healey".

I used a different font for the "400 Days", which made it stand out better and made it look bold.

I uploaded the final video to YouTube, here it is:
